TOXIC LAWN CHEMICALS AND PESTICIDES AND THE EFFECT ON DOGS

DANGEROUS TOXIC Lawn Chemicals and Dogs, Cats and Children

dog park
Toxic Lawns
As the weather warms, we will be taking our dogs out to the parks. Beware! There is something serious lurking about the park--lawn chemicals, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides are being sprayed on the grounds of most every (dog) park, show ring, lawn, golf course and every other public and private grass grounds in this country.

Protect Your Dogs Paws with Disposable Reusable Boots for Dogs -
Believe me they won't walk like ducks in 'em!

These dog boots are great! Use them rain or shine. Protect your dogs paws from chemicals on lawns and parks. When it snows, protect your dogs paws from snow, ice, calcium chloride and salt that burns and drys out dogs paws. In rainy conditions these dog boots keep your dogs paws dry and clean from dirty puddles and mud. I love them and highly recommend them!

Does your dog or cat lick its paws? The fact is that this makes it worse because the moisture from the mouth reactivates the chemical and now it is a vicious cycle. Now your dog or cat will be experiencing skin problems that the Vets label as "allergies" when the root cause is toxicity.

2-4 D Weed Killer Causes Cancer in Humans and Pets

In a Case-Control Study of Canine Malignant Lymphoma: Positive Association With Dog Owner's Use of 2, 4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic Acid (or 2,4-D) Herbicides by Howard Hayes and others (printed in JNCI Cancer Spectrum, 1991 - Oxford Univ Press) it was found that
"dogs developed malignant lymphoma applied 2, 4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2, 4-D) herbicides to their lawn and/or employed commercial lawn care companies to treat their yard significantly more frequently than control owners (odds ratio = 1.3). In addition, the risk of canine malignant lymphoma rose to a twofold excess with four or more yearly owner applications of 2,4-D."
Wikipedia.org states the following about 2,4-D:
"2,4-D can be found in lawn herbicide mixtures such as "Weed B Gon MAX", "PAR III", "Trillion", "Tri-Kil", "Killex" and "Weedaway Premium 3-Way XP Turf Herbicide". All of these mixtures typically contain three active ingredients: 2,4-D, mecoprop and dicamba. Over 1,500 herbicide products contain 2,4-D as an active ingredient.
2,4-D is most commonly used for:
  • Weed control in lawns and other turf
  • No-till burndown
  • Control of weeds and brush along fences and highway and railroad rights of way
  • Conifer release (control of broad-leaf trees in conifer plantings)
  • Grass hayfields and pastures
  • Cereal grains
  • Corn and sorghum (occasionally)
  • As a synthetic auxin analogue
2,4-D continues to be used, where legal, for its low cost. However, where municipal lawn pesticide bylaws exist, such as in Canada,[2] alternatives such as corn gluten meal and vinegar based products are increasingly being used to combat weeds."
Adrenal disruption in dogs from herbicides and pesticides among other serious illnesses and conditions including cancer are higher when dogs (and cats) are exposed to these deadly chemicals. Then there is the deaths due to "unknown liver and kidney failure." Is the cause really unknown? Or is that beautiful lawn the culprit behind your pets illness and even death? As a responsible pet owner, we need to question what is being used on the lawns that our pets frequent. If you have a lawn opt for natural substances to deter bugs and weeds.

Ever see a cat laying on a lawn or have you ever seen a dog eating grass? My dogs eat grass from time to time (I think they think it is a treat) and I use no chemicals on my lawns. I just pull the weeds and mow the lawn - my pet's health is more important to me than a beautiful lawn! If you dog frequents public areas and you are not sure what chemical are used - wash off your pet's paws. Second, work on removing any chemicals that may be present in the lawns they frequent from the liver and kidneys immediately! By cleansing the immune system you get a head start at alleviating health problems that will manifest themselves in a short period of time.

I read one article about a Pet Poisoning Center in Minesota but there was not mentioned about the lawns. In the park where I walked with my dog, they used to put labels when they have treated the grass with something harmful.Thank you for sharing the article!

Hi Hamster,

This is something I never gave much thought to, but in fact it effects every animal that comes in contact with these chemicals. Cleansing and Detoxing your pet is extremely important. Also everyone should ask about the type of chemicals being used in these public places.

All the best,

Stacey
